Sheik sat waiting in a tree outside Kakariko Village as the sun slowly began to set. He didn't move a muscle, and his bright crimson eyes stared out into the field, as if waiting for someone, but not wanting to be seen.

I wonder where he is, Sheik thought to himself, He should be here by now.
As he waited his thoughts began to wander. A slight breeze billowed his hair in his face as he reminisced...

He remembered the last time they met, after Link had saved Lake Hylia from Morpha, the monster that dwelt within the Water Temple. As they had watched the rising water, a powerful emotion, unlike anything he had ever felt before, washed over him. He had looked at Link, who had looked back, and could tell that he had felt that same yearning. He had then thrown a Deku Nut on the ground, and disappeared. Sheik knew that he shouldn't let that happen again, but that feeling had been so wonderful, so perfect. He just had to see him one more time...

His thoughts were disturbed by the sound of galloping hooves. Sheik looked towards horizon, and saw a beautiful reddish brown horse with a white mane and tail, whom he knew to be Epona. There was a man on Epona. A handsome young man with a green tunic and a pointed cap that was only too familiar...

He's here! Finally! Sheik's heart started racing in a way it never does unless Link is around. He looked back towards the sky, and then his heart skipped a beat. The sun was almost completely gone, being replaced by a round, full moon.

Hurry! Sheik silently pleaded, The Stalfos will be here any moment!

Just as Sheik predicted, numerous Stalfos began to appear from the ground. There were too many. Epona became so frightened that she reared and bucked Link off before running for safety, leaving Link alone to deal with the Stalfos on his own. Sheik braced himself as he considered joining Link, but then hesitated. Link was among the strongest, courageous men in all of Hyrule. He should be able to handle this on his own.

"You think you can take me?" Link shouted, "Then bring it on! I've had tougher opponents than this on my worst days!"

Link, you imbecile, Sheik shouted internally, Don't goad them! You need to be careful!

Link stood very still, the mighty and legendary Master Sword clenched in his left hand, his shield in the other. He looked as if he was preparing an attack. Sure enough, when the Stalfos were just mere feet from him, he unleashed a powerful spin attack that managed defeat some of them with ease. Link caught another one by surprise by using a jump attack, and it crumbled to pieces on the ground. One Stalfos tried to land a hit on him, but Link managed to deflect the attack using his shield. It was stunned that Link had avoided damage. Seizing the opportunity, Link sliced his sword through it's spine.

However, the rest were clever, and learned from their defeated comrades' mistakes. Soon, the Stalfos became too overwhelming for Link. He was outnumbered. Before long, he had many injuries all over his body, and his tunic was ripped and stained crimson with blood. He panted hard with every breath, every swing, as his body quickly grew weary.

I should help him! Sheik decided.

It was then one of the Stalfos, a particularly cunning one, crept behind Link while he was preoccupied with another. Before Sheik could so much as shout out a word of warning, struck a powerful blow to the back of his head. Link fell to the ground unconscious, unmoving, while many Stalfos crowded his body...

"NO!" Sheik cried, and jumped high from the tree in the middle of the stampede. Years of hard work and training had made Sheik into a very formidable, agile Sheikah warrior. He knocked the legs out from underneath the nearest Stalfos. When it crumpled, he leaped into the air again and landed a punch in the face of the one that rendered Link incapacitated. He felt his knuckles break, but he continued to fight. Link needed him now more than ever.

As the Stalfos began to surround him, he whipped out his chain and lashed it at the nearest one. The end of the chain wrapped itself around it's sword. Sheik tugged the chain hard and the weapon was released of the Stalfos' grasp. Sheik caught it then swung with all his might, killing several of them as they rushed forward to attack. Sheik used his new-found weapon to kill off the remaining monsters.

After an epic battle, all the Stalfos had been destoyed. Sheik stood panting as his eyes surveyed the pile of Stalfos bones he and Link had defeated. But he couldn't delay long: they would be putting themselves back together very soon.

He limped over to Link, who was face down on the ground. He dropped his sword as he fell to his knees, and turned him over. Tears filled his eyes as he stared into the bloodied and bruised face of the man that he loved.

"Link, I'm so sorry! I was a fool to have left you to do this alone!" Sheik moaned quietly.

Just then, a Stalfos began to piece itself back together. Sheik held Link tightly, threw down a Deku Nut, and they vanished. They reappeared in a secluded meadow, with a lonely, abandoned house. Sheik came here from time to time, when he needed a place to stay and not be disturbed. He had never been found here, sure that only he was aware of it's existence. It was a perfect place: a place of peace and solitude.

Sheik ran as he carried Link to the house. He shifted Link into one arm as he made to open the door. It was locked, and wouldn't budge. Cradling Link in both arms again, he took three steps back, and kicked the door in, knocking it off its hinges. He carried Link into the nearest bedroom and laid him on the bed, examining him. There was so much blood. It covered his face and hair, his arms and chest. He was growing weaker as the seconds went by. Sheik wondered how long it would be before...

No! Don't you dare think that! There has to be something you can do! THINK! Sheik told himself frantically. An idea came to him quickly. He went to the nearest shelf and found a bottle of red healing potion. He uncorked the bottle and tipped the entire contents into Link's open mouth.

Then he waited. As minutes went by there was no change in Link's condition, other than his breathing getting slower and more ragged. Sheik did not know if the potion would work if used on injuries this bad. All he could do was pray to the goddesses.

As the time went by, his breathing got harsher. Eventually, it stopped altogether. Link took one last, final breath before the breathing ceased.

"No. No! No no no no NO NO NO!" Sheik yelled in panic, "He can't be! He couldn't be! There's no way that he's dead! There has to be something! ANYTHING!"

Sheik looked frantically around the room, as if something would magically appear. Another idea. It was vain, but it was the only chance he had. He pulled a bag out from under the bed. Inside the bag was another bottle, this one containing a pink healing fairy. It was his last one, and he hoped it would suffice. He uncorked the bottle, and took the fairy gently in his hand. The fairy tried to heal it, but Sheik stopped it.

"No. I'm not the one who needs healing." Sheik explained to it in a whisper, "You need to save him! Save Link! You're the only hope I have left!" He then pressed the fairy into Link's chest, where it disappeared. He waited again, watching Link's face. How long has it been? Hours, days, months, years? Sheik didn't know, but the suspense was killing him. He waited, and waited, and waited more.

Nothing. No result. Link laid just as still as he was before. There was no escaping the fact that...

It's over, Sheik thought, I was too late! I couldn't save him! The grief, the anguish, became too much for him, almost to the point where he could physically feel it. It tortured him from the inside out. He broke down in sobs, his head lying against Link's chest. Then something happened.

There was a loud gasp for air. Sheik jerked his head up immediately. Link was breathing once again! A few more deep breaths, and they subsided, calmed until they became regular again.

Sheik had never been more relieved than he was at that very moment. Link was just inches away from death, only to have escaped it!

He left the room for a few moments to look for something to wrap Link's injuries. He found nothing, so he made do by removing the fabric with the sacred Sheikah symbol. Sheik then took one of Link's hands in his, and brushed his other on his cheek.  "Thank the goddesses! I thought I'd lost you!" Sheik whispered, his voice quivering with joy and relief.

Eventually, he grew tired, but he tried to fight it off. Sleep claimed him soon, however, as he laid he head against Link's chest once again.

The next thing he knew, he felt movement beneath him. Is it morning already? Sheik wondered, and opened his eyes to a face full of sunlight. He blinked it out of his eyes, then remembered last night's events. He lifted his head up and spotted Link, fully awake, and watching him. His face looked apologetic.

"Sorry," Link spoke sheepishly, "I was just trying to get up without waking you..."

"It's okay," Sheik replied, "I'm just glad to finally see you awake!" He sat up, and when he did, Link stared at him in surprise.

"Uh, Sheik..." Link said, looking embarrassed.

Sheik didn't understand Link's reaction, until he looked down where Link was looking. Only the tiniest bit of cleavage was showing, but it was enough to be noticed...

Sheik's face, although partly hidden by his cowl, couldn't hide the shock and embarrassment. He'd forgotten that he had removed the Sheikah Eye.

"I don't understand. What's going on?" Link continued.

Sheik didn't know what to say. Just tell him the truth. Well, part of the truth anyway.

"Link..." Sheik hesitated, but Link beat him to it.

"You're a woman?" he asked.

Sheik was surprised by how quick he had caught on. "Yes," Sheik answered, "I am a woman." And then Sheik, the woman, not the man, removed the wrappings from her face and hair. She was a beautiful woman, with a kind face and her long, blond hair, previously hidden, fell to the middle of her back.

Link's eyes surveyed her. It was another minute before he spoke again, and when he did, his face broke into a smile, "I guess that explains a lot, doesn't it?"

"What do you mean?" Sheik asked. Her voice, no longer muffled by the cowl, was sweet and feminine.

"Well, it explains..." Link's started.

"Explains what, exactly?" Sheik replied.

His eyes softened as he continued. "It explains...why I felt the way that I did...that day by the lake," Link answered.

Sheik grinned. "I knew I wasn't the only one," she confessed, "Because I could see it in your eyes."

Link chuckled, and took her in his arms. "I guess I was a bit obvious, wasn't I? Although, I do have to ask you something."

Sheik hesitated before she answered, "And that would be...?"

"Why the disguise?" he inquired.

Sheik tried to hide the fear from her face as she answered, "That is something I can't tell you. Not yet. But in time, you will know."

Link searched her face for a moment, and nodded in understanding. "Can I ask you one more thing?"

Panic rose in her chest. She knew she might be endangering herself by answering this question. But his eyes were pleading her, and panic was replaced with the desire to make him happy. She didn't want to disappoint him, even if it meant putting herself in danger. "Anything," she finally replied.

"Does Zelda know about you?" Link asked.

Oh, Sheik thought with relief. She remembered telling Link that she carried out missions from Zelda herself when she wasn't busy following him and teaching him warping songs. And so the answer came naturally to her, "She knows."

"I thought so," Link replied.

Before he started asking more questions, she suggested to him that maybe he should wash up. His body was still stained and sticky with dried blood. He agreed. When she sent him to a nearby stream, Sheik went to find food. By the time Link returned, there was a hot meal ready and waiting. They ate in silence, neither of them knowing what else to say.

As night came they bade each other good night, and headed for separate bedrooms.

But Sheik couldn't sleep. She had certain feelings that she tried to hold back. She tossed and turned as she tried not to think about the man laying alone in his room. She tried to push away the thoughts of Link's rippling muscles, of his perfect face, of his lips...

Sheik quietly got out of bed. She left her room, approached Link's door, and, hesitating for a split second, opened it. She closed the door quietly behind her, and saw that Link was still awake, with his hands behind his head. He looked surprised as she crossed the room toward him.

"Sheik-", was all he managed to say before she placed her finger to his lips. She slowly removed it, then before he could say anything else pressed her lips to his. They kissed passionately, yet, gently. They soon became wrapped tightly in each others arms. She began to kiss his neck as he ran his hands through her hair. Sheik could tell Link had no experience in this as they kissed, but she didn't care: because neither did she.

Their breathing became loud and harsh, but they held each other close as if their lives depended on it. Sheik pulled him closer to her, and Link held her tighter. Their love lasted for most of the night. It wasn't until the early morning before they shared one final kiss, and blissfully fell asleep in each other's arms.

Sheik woke up later, and Link was still asleep. She absolutely hated the idea of leaving him here, but she had no choice: she had a mission to do. She quietly got out of bed and dressed. She found Link's clothes and laid them on a chair for him, and left him a letter explaining where she'd gone.

She was about to leave, but hesitated. She turned around, and gave Link one last kiss. She walked back to the door, took one last look at Link, and departed. As she left, her face, though hidden again, broke into the biggest smile that Zelda, Princess of Hyrule, had worn in seven years.
PLEASE READ DESCRIPTION BEFORE READING FANFIC!

Ok, so this is my first fanfic, so I already know it's not gonna be great :/. Also, romance isn't really my forte, not just in writing, but for anything in general. But this is my favorite Zelda pairing (and something I've had in my head for a while), so I thought I'd at least give it a shot.

Just to clear things up, it's also not a yaoi, because I know that's the first thing people are gonna think when they first start reading it. I admit that Sheik, THE DISGUISE, is that of a male. My argument, however, is that Sheik, THE PERSON/PHYSICAL BEING, is female. The reason of Sheik looking like a man is because of an illusion she uses while still maintaining her female form. She will always be female to me, and there's nothing anyone can say or do to change my mind.

Please let me know what you guys seriously think of this and don't spare my feelings. If it's bad, say so. I welcome any criticism, grammar-wise, because if I decide to start writing more then I need all the help I can get.

-----------------------------

EDIT: I've made quite a few changes to this, particularly in the fighting scene. I was feeling in the editing mood, so I thought to make it better. Let me know what you think ;)

Sheik's a woman dammit! not a man I'm glad the 3DS remake of OOT appeals to her being female I wish there was a thumbs up and downs options on deviantart so I can thumbs down any artwork or fanfic depicting Sheik as a man! I'm tired of explaining to people that Sheik's a WOMAN!

I couldn't agree more. While yes, the disguise is that of a man, the physicality of the character is actually a woman. I can't believe that there are still people saying, "But the manga says that she became a boy," when it's been proven time and time again that the mangas are NOT canon.

Actually no in the manga and I quote from what Impa says "Until the right time, Princess Zelda's consciousness shall sleep to awaken as a young Sheikah boy." The manga never said anything of Zelda turning into a boy it's these dumbass yaoi and fanfiction people saying it's true when clearly it's not.

I've never actually read the manga, so I don't know exactly what was said. But I do agree that their logic is stupid. -_-

Hmm... Very good indeed! :D There are some things that I'd change personally, but they're in short supply. Overall, I think this was very well written and it even kept up some continuity with the actual story. KUDOS! :dummy:

Thanks so much! What exactly do you think I should change or add about this? I'm always updating this thing whenever I get tips I find helpful. In fact, I've changed it about three or four times since I first posted it XD.

Oh, well if you insist. It's just my personal preference, but I felt that Sheik was made too girly, too soon. WAIT! Let me explain! I mean based on the actual story, Zelda is supposed to be disguised as a man and think like a man. I believe that if you made it so that Zelda's frantic and feminine thoughts didn't surface until after Link had supposedly died (or when he was becoming critical), then it possibly could have been an instant mood changer. Leaving a strong impact on readers and even possibly making them think that Link had really died; even if for a moment, the audience still could have cared. Even though mostly EVERYBODY knows Sheik's true identity, you still could have played on people's old nostalgia for when they still thought that Sheik was just some random Sheikah. My point is this: When writing a story, it is my personal belief that you should make the story seem as if it was your own your own. In other words; Even if it is a fan fiction, you still can throw a few curve balls. :)

Please take no offence, all of this is my own opinion. None of what I said should be taken offensively or as absolute fact. ^^;

Oh, I don't find any of it offensive at all. I do see your point about Sheik being too feminine in the beginning, if you were going for a nostalgia feeling while writing. I was actually going to do that at first, where the reader thinks Sheik is male. But then partway through, I threw in a curve ball of my own. You see, I find WAY to many yaoi versions of Link X Sheik stuff, so I decided to make the twist where people would think that this version of Sheik would be male like all those other ones, but BAM! She's female. I was going more for a "This is how I think of this couple, and there's nothing you can do to change it" kind of way. I'm not trying to bash those who do prefer the yaoi pairing, because everyone's entitled to their own opinion. This is just my way of expressing mine. :)

Of course! Art is a form of freedom of expression and that goes for writing as well. It is up to you how you write your story and how the characters interact. In the end we all have our different tastes and opinions. My overall point I was trying to make though was just that I felt that even though at first you did make it so that the audience would see Sheik as a guy, his inner thoughts automatically gave away that he was really a female in my opinion; either that or a REALLY feminine man. What I was trying to say was that maybe instead of showing Sheik's TRUE feelings in the beginning, maybe put a cover of masculinity over his/her thoughts to make the audience firmly believe that it's a guy; maybe even stretch it out longer to make the audience 100% sure that it's a guy, THEN throw the curve ball. Make the audience go: "WTF!? All this time I thought I was reading yaoi when I really wasn't!? Well damn, now it all makes sense!"

Yeah, I do see what you mean about that. I didn't really think about it from the masculine point of view. I was so bent on keeping Sheik female that I guess I forgot about it ^^;. But thanks a lot for giving me your ideas. I might actually end up re-writing the whole thing to make it all fit better and go the way that I want it. :D

That was my original intention. I wanted it to be a little bit like the game, you know? When most people met Sheik they thought she was a guy. I was trying to do the same in this, because Link was unaware of it. I'm glad that you liked this:D. To be honest, I'm not into the Link X Sheik Yaois either.

Although,(if I may be so bold to state) I do feel the the 'Mature' setting was a little harsh. But it was a great story, nonetheless.

Anytime.
And about the mature setting, you only need to set for blood and gore or intercourse. Like say if Link lost a limb and the story told about how the blood pooled from the open flesh and torn veins, or if Sheik and Link desired to get "busy". Then that would need a mature setting.
This story is in the clear. *thumbs up*

I know what you mean, because SheikxLink Yaois bother me, too. Because Sheik is FEMALE, you know? And that's pretty much what I was going for. I was trying to make it a bit like the game, where at first you think Sheik is a man, until it's unveiled that she's really Zelda.

I made Sheik a "he" in the beginning because I was going for a plot twister, just like how it was when you play Ocarina of Time for the first time. The only problem with that though is that some people may just read about halfway through and start flaming me for being a male-Sheik supporter when I'm not. So far, luck has held out and no one's done that yet :). And I've thought about writing some more, but I just haven't had any ideas yet. And thanks again! :tighthug:
